CMFRI Scientist Wins Best Biodiversity Researcher Award




Kochi: Dr K K Joshi, Head, Marine Biodiversity Division and Principal Scientist at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has won the prestigious Best Biodiversity Researcher Award for the year 2016 instituted by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB). The award is in recognition of his contributions to research and development in the field of taxonomy of fishes and marine biodiversity valuation related to Kerala.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presented the award during the International Biodiversity Day celebrations organised by the KSBB in Thiruvananthapuram. The award includes certificate, citation and an amount of Rs 50,000.
Dr Joshi had carried out research project on biodiversity valuation of the marine ecosystems of the south west coast of India with special reference to Kerala. As the principal investigator of the taxonomy projects in 2004, he made revisions of the fishes of the family Carangidae, Leiognathidae, Balistidae and Scombridae.
